Take a plunge into a beat ’em up brawler where each enemy you whack learns you a new move. Full of offbeat and funny traps, such as baked fish missiles, toothpaste turrets, and watermelon bazookas, this game contains 15 different gadgets to unlock. Bust your neighbors’ houses apart to collect resources, then utilize them to build traps or enlarge your area with an additional room. Assign Task Susumu to develop power-up items, but keep an eye on him—if he gets complacent, a light kick may be necessary. Aside from securing your house, you will also have to battle strange bosses coming your way. Don’t believe their weird appearance—it is a devious strategy that will give you a run for your money.

Get to know Susumu, an unemployed, socially avoiding lad who barricades himself inside his room all day long. This life in Japan brands him a Hikikomori (shut-in), a burgeoning societal problem. The enemies—be they concerned, derisive, or merely curious about a hikikomori—attempt to reach Susumu. When they do, it’s all over. What follows? Impossible to say, but as one who is himself a Hikikomori, I can relate to Susumu. This solo-created game is one of my own existence, combining tower defense with bizarre objects and creatures. Its offbeat Japanese humor really cuts loose, so it’s worth a try by anyone who likes radically original gameplay.
