Pixel Descent Direct Link
Bravely, you wrote the agreement that eternally cut your ties with the world above, swearing to venture into the void and discover the lost secrets of the past. Your destiny is fixed with death, but your name will resound as a legend. The ever-changing depths are a challenge worthy of brave adventurers, though rashness is not wise—you’re only granted one opportunity to leave your mark. At the core of this journey is the conflict of holding firm while pushing forward, as waves of enemies try to bring your position down; they’re abundant, so prepare yourself well. But linger too long, and a horrific creature may emerge, seeking to steal your glory!

It’s a snappy, fun little gem. What you see is what you get. Consider it Gauntlet and BroTato merging into one work. The enhancements are heavy, and after a 10-floor climb, I feel like I’ve emerged from obscurity to heroism. Initially, the Rogue didn’t work—the first four of my runs were bad. Then, suddenly, everything clicked, and I was right on the cusp of winning, assuming Floor 10 is the end. There is still much to learn (such as 12-15 additional characters). It provides Gauntlet’s tried-and-true evade-and-attack rhythm with consistent, sustained boosts. Unfortunately, multiplayer trips up: doors can be opened only by player one. Split-screen would be a major boost from the single-screen view.
