After weeks of playing Burden of Command, the salient moment will be the first death in my unit. Few games can instill a sense of emotional investment in characters, albeit fictional, who feel very real. The burden of responsibility is apparent and makes every decision critical.
What I had expected was a traditional hex-based wargame where leadership mechanics could be reduced to officer buffs. However, Burden of Command makes roleplaying and classic turn-based tactics flow perfectly into one layered experience. The main game changes between two key things:
Narrative Depth – Cool writing passages (expect a lot of reading) where your choices
