Only a fool would think Lab Rat was made by a machine. In reality, it is a fully-fledged narrative puzzler(supposed satirical) in presentation. Following a satirical tutorial by the AI, which is obsessed with data and paneled up to the max, the game observes how you come in and out of puzzle solutions, earning an ever-changing profile of crazy theories about humanity from your answers to a plethora of surveys.

Even in its unpolished state, Lab Rat feels different and seems to be a fresh take on an indie puzzle game. Somewhat mindless to figure out, the mechanics lead to absurdity in the solution. Just as you think you’ve figured something out, another twist is thrown at you. The art is polished, the story interesting, and the humor just right.
Having played my fair share of indie puzzle games, I can say that many are mundane or uninspired; Lab Rat is not such a game. Sharp writing and excellent voice acting, and the AI’s growing-with-you personality is wonderfully unsettling. I was hyped after playing the beta years ago, and the full version really paid off. The puzzle-storytelling combination is genius.
