Ever since a young woman’s death anniversary, peculiar incidents have plagued the White Oak Inn. Her spirit now drifts through, and an employee’s been getting menacing letters. What shadowy secrets lie in wait? Time’s slipping away, and as Alex Hill, you’ve got to unearth the truth before it’s too late. Environment: The area was large enough to stay interesting, avoiding the cramped atmosphere some ND titles possess. It was nice the way the areas connected in one cohesive environment (with a bicycle appearing later on to accelerate progress). That bike was a nice touch—knowing it stood there gave a small thrill. You could feel the work going into the smaller details of the environment and location of assets.
Puzzles and Experience
Puzzles: I’m not a puzzle fan, so I was happy this game kept them light. The ones that were there were doable but still evoked some satisfying mental effort. A couple of them really stood out! If you enjoy puzzles, there are bonus ones to solve as well. The settings don’t match the vivid charm of early Nancy Drew books—decor and lighting was slightly off-kilter, to be expected from an indie—but it made some areas less welcoming to linger in (except for the outside of the curio shop and Alex’s room entrance).
