Takeshi Kuranari, a typical college student, visits the underwater theme park LeMU. A sudden accident locks him and six others in, 51 meters under the sea. With no hope of rescue, Takeshi explores LeMU with the mysterious Tsugumi and part-timer You, searching for an escape route. A dreamland theme park and hope now lie under the mysterious blue ocean. Do hope and dreams still exist there? Or is there a secret enigma hidden? Fighting one crisis after another, they search for an escape! I’m keeping this review positive up to now, but I think it will turn to negative as I continue playing the game.

Ever17 is widely regarded as Kotaro Uchikoshi’s defining work, and understandably so; many of the powerful concepts, philosophies, surprises, scientific elements, character dynamics, and themes seen in his later projects stem from Ever17, preserved in this remake. Still, I’m not fully enamored with Ever 17 or its tempo; for a story about being confined in a sinking underwater park, there’s a notable lack of Things Happening. The characters wander in wait of events, and the game primarily revolves around getting to know them—fun if you resonate with them, boring if not.
